Bittersweet EMX125 final for Florian Miot

EMX125 Rd 10 Race report

KTM Diga Junior Racing’s Floran Miot was looking set to wrap up his season strong in the final moto in Lommel yesterday. After a solid 8th in the first moto Florian was on his way to 4th when he went down on the ultimate lap.

With a sixth in time practice for Miot and 16th for Daniel Volovich in the first group both KTM Diga Junior Racing riders had a decent start to their last EMX125 event of the 2020 season.

In spite of his start outside of the top-10 Florian quickly started to move forward. Although he managed to climb up to 8th in the opening lap the talented young Frenchman couldn’t quite make the difference to make more headway. However Miot put in a strong final push in his challenge for 7th. Eventually he trailed seventh placed Ivano Van Erp by just a couple of tenths.

While Florian had been playing catch up since injuring his heel in Faenza he once again showed how far he’s come with an inspired second moto performance. Similar to his first moto on Saturday Miot recorded top-3 lap times and circulated in third for five laps. Although he lost third with four laps to go he was still looking strong for fourth and another top-5 overall finish. Unfortunately Florian fell in the waves, compressing his lower back vertebrae in the process. Thankfully the former French 125cc champion should recover to full fitness in no time with a bit of rest

For Daniel Volovich the final race in Lommel was a day to forget quickly. After a technical problem in the first moto he suffered two big crashes and DNF’d in the second.

Next weekend KTM Diga Junior Racing’s WMX contender TJ O’Hare will line up for her final race of the season in Arco di Trento, Italy. TJ is currently 10th but she has a realistic chance of improving her final championship placement.

Dirk Saelen, KTM Diga Junior Racing team manager: “This is not how we would have liked to close the EMX season! Obviously we’re all very disappointed and sorry for Florian (Miot). You can not deny the effort he put in to keep on fighting till the end. He rode a strong second moto and showed this week in Lommel that he was starting to get back to his best level again. After his fourth places earlier we knew he had the speed to get on the box yesterday. Unfortunately this too is a part of racing. On the positive side Florian was mostly battered and bruised and will be back to full strength soon. For Daniel this was a particularly difficult final race but I think he learned a lot about himself and racing at this level this season. After this intense week at home we’re now looking forward to get the best possible result with TJ O’Hare in italy!”.
