Top-5 for Florian Miot in Flemish EMX125 round
The first of three rounds ‘at home’ in Lommel offered the KTM Diga Junior Racing a completely new experience of the famous sand track. EMX125 rider Florian Miot was the team’s best performer of the day. The fast Frenchman showed good speed but a complicated second moto robbed him of his chances of a second podium of the season.
Miot began his Flemish EMX round highly motivated. In the free time practice Florian posted a great third time in his group, but in the qualifying session he had to settle for 5th. After a start in the top-5, the former French 125cc champion moved into second. Miot set a regular pace and managed to cros the finish line in second. In the second moto the promising KTM Diga Junior Racing rider started outside the top-10. After 25 minutes plus two laps he had clawed his way up to 6th.
With 53 riders fighting for the 40 starting positions in the race Daniel Volovich successfully took the first hurdle of the day. He qualified with a solid 14th fastest time in his group. Volovich's speed was unfortunately not as good as it could’ve been in the races. Eventually Daniel left Lommel 1 with a 28-26 28th scorecard.
The experienced Thomas Sileika was especially looking forward to Lommel. Like most of his colleagues the Latvian voiced his enthusiasm about the changes on the track. After a promising P12 in time practice Thomas wasn’t able to turn his top-10 ambitions into reality. Although he fought his way towards the top-10 after a mid-pack start in the first race, he made a mistake and never fully recovered. Sileika was thus relegated to 18th. The 2nd moto was a frustrating affair because he never got into a nice flow. With a 20th place Thomas didn’t live up to his expectations.
After some positive races back home in Sweden Emil Jönrup headed to Lommel with a good feeling. Although his riding was quite up to par at the Stedelijk Motorcross Centre, Emil was heavily penalised by two bad starts and remained pointless.
Both the EMX125 and the EMX250 riders get a new chance in Lommel on Tuesday. This is also the final event for the EMX250 championship.
Florian Miot: "Actually, I am not entirely satisfied with yesterday. The first race was good but the second moto was very difficult. After my bad start I couldn't come back the way I wanted to. However, I do like the new circuit and Tuesday I’ll give it everything I have again. I would like to be on the podium once more and it’s definitely possible here.”
Thomas Sileika: “Not a great day, certainly not because I had a good feeling in the morning during the free practice and in the qualifications. In the first moto I remounted well after a poor start but after I crashed I never got back into my rhythm. In the second race I got away from the gate poorly. I tried to go on the attack but I didn't find good lines on the track. I ended up riding by myself for most of the race.”
Emil Jönrup: "As far as riding was concerned, the feeling was okay but I already knew ahead of the motor that it wouldn't be easy because I only qualified 34th. With better starts on Tuesday, there is certainly more to it in terms of results.”
Daniel Volovich: "It didn't go so bad yesterday. Unfortunately I crashed twice in the first race and lost a lot of time. In the second moto, however, I never got into the flow and had a bad start. On Tuesday I want to perform as regularly as possible in both races.”
